Scouting provides young people with opportunities to participate in events, activities and projects that contribute to their growth as active members of their community. Guides and Scouts do go camping, hiking, swimming, cycling and canoeing. But they also get to hang out with their friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Versatile hobby preparing young people with skills for life

A scout climbing over a net in a foret.Every week we give tens of thousands of 7-22 year olds the skills they need for school, their future job interviews, their important speeches, the tricky challenges and the big dreams: the skills they need for life. Supporting the development and growth of children and youth is a vital part of Guiding and Scouting in Finland. Improving useful skills such as problem-solving, bushcraft, first aid, and social skills happens naturally while having fun with like-minded people. Kids learn how to respect and appreciate nature, the environment, and other people.

Kids can join their local Guides and Scouts troop, even if they don’t speak the local language yet, but are willing to learn. Free-time activities and hobbies are great ways of learning the language and integrating into one’s local culture while having fun! Most of the guiding and scouting activities are currently organized in Finnish and Swedish, but many local groups also cater to those who speak English or other languages. Please don’t hesitate to ask your local group how they have organized their groups and activities.

Refugees who join the Guides and Scouts of Finland do not need to pay their membership fee for the year of 2022. This exemption from 2022 membership fees for refugees applies to refugees representing all nationalities. Read more about the membership fee exemption by clicking here.

Adults can also join the Guides and Scouts of Finland

Did you know that Scouting is a splendid free time activity for adults, too? Scouting provides a great counterbalance to work and otherwise hectic day-to-day life. The Scouts organize training for various tasks, and you may acquire study points from many of the courses. Scouting as an adult is voluntary work, which enables many children and adolescents to be part of the hobby. As a volunteer, you can define how much time and effort is feasible for you. Everyone is needed!
